CAMPAIGNS

One of the core missions of Proud Changemakers is to drive positive change for LGBTQIA+ people and communities.

One way we do this is through campaigning. We are values-led, and always seek to promote and advocate for LGBTQIA+ people in and beyond the voluntary sector.

lgbtqia+ in civil society survey has launched!

Proud Changemakers has launched a survey to understand how LGBTQIA+ people and organisations in civil society are being affected by legal and regulatory changes on the definition of ‘sex’ and ‘gender’.

This survey is designed to capture any experiences you or your organisation may have had as a result of recent legal and regulatory changes relating to sex and gender in the law.

This includes the Supreme Court’s ruling on sex as defined in the Equality Act 2010 from April 2025, and the interim guidance published by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) in the following weeks.

Our goal is to understand what, if any, impact these changes are having on voluntary organisations. This includes the organisations themselves, but also on staff, volunteers and beneficiaries. Many organisations are not specific LGBTQIA+ organisations, but have been affected in differing ways by the changes, the surrounding media and political attention.

We want to understand the impact, and any similarities or differences for differing organisations.

You do not have to identify as LGBTQIA+ personally or work/volunteer for a specifically LGBTQIA+ organisation to complete this survey. If you work, volunteer or receive support from different organisations, please complete the survey once focusing on one organisation only.

We will use the evidence we gather through this survey to inform our work. This includes influencing government and decision makers, supporting the voluntary sector, and advocating for better support for LGBTQIA+ people within and beyond the sector. Our role is to lift up and advocate for LGBTQIA+ people, and we want to gather evidence of need to help shape our support and response.

There are many ways that charities campaign.

And they are legally entitled to do so. Proud Changemakers is not party political, and we do not seek to influence any one particular political party.

We campaign authentically, honestly and always ensure that:

  • We are mission led - so we focus on our charitable objects and our agreed goals

  • We leave room for growth and change - as develop and embed the organisation, we will be open to changes we need to make to our campaigning in order to support our community

how do we campaign?

It is vital that our community has a voice, and is able to shape decision making which affects our lives. Where government and other consultations will impact on the LGBTQIA+ community, we will seek to influence this.

We seek to build relationships with decision makers, to elevate LGBTQIA+ voices, and advocate for positive change

We respond to consultations, and encourage our networks to do the same.
